It’s true that summer is definitely winding down now, but I for one am super psyched that autumn is upon us! Fall is a kickass time of year – yeah, you get to put on more burly attire, but let’s get serious: it’s great because the “PSL”(pumpkin spice latte) and everything else pumpkin and cinnamon is back in full throttle.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably super hyped to get your pumpkin Starby’s fix, but are dreading the added calories and sugar. No worries, friend, there’s a couple killer ways to order your drink without loading up on the crap calories.
Ask for a Grande Americano, with 1 inch steamed milk on top instead of a regular latte, then ask for a single pump of the pumpkin spice syrup (4-5 pumps is standard, and those 70 calorie pumps might taste good but they are ruining you!). I go to the “fixins” counter at the back and add in a ton of cinnamon afterwards, if it’s not sweet enough sometimes I will add in a half Splenda (this will make it taste almost like a fully fatty/sugary version).
Straight up, you’re going to be shocked by how good this is considering its about 300 calories less than a regular version!
For those of you who are unaware, you should probably be loading up on cinnamon on the daily (not just with your PSLs). Cinnamon is great at helping regulate insulin and has been shown to lower the insulin spike you get from sugar, by decreasing the amount of glucose that enters the bloodstream. To keep it short and simple, less insulin spikes means less chance of unwanted fat storage. Cinnamon also has great anti-inflammatory properties, and is loaded with antioxidants.
So, rather than being bummed on it being the end of summer, get positive on the greatness autumn brings and what’s to come, and as #sweaterweather and chilly nights roll in, remember to add cinnamon in and cut some of those extra empty calories out.
